Mum Money and I FAQ
It is so amazing the amount of
rest and fun we have been enjoying in this season in the past few weeks. God
has really blessed us with good air and good natural ambiance to enjoy. Now i
am not talking about #COVID19 but Mum Money and I.
Mum Money and I has faced a lot of
questioning since it's publication, such that I have had reason to deal with
both the young and old over the idea behind the making of #MumMoneyandI. To a
lot of people it sounds so funny and I had to explain in each scenario, one
after the order and so I have put together four of those frequently asked
questions which I think will guide you along this path.
What were the challenges you faced
with writing a book as this?
My first challenge was asking
myself what it takes to write a book that kids will want to read. You know
what? This curiosity fed on my time that after I thought I have completed the
book I had to sit back ask myself all over again a simple question; if you were
8-13 year old will you want to read this, kind of book. So I had to go back to
rewrite it all over again, such that it will appeal to the young ones I am
intending to address the book to. You know, if there is any
category of book so difficult to write, it is children's book. While writing a
book for kids you need to first understand that you are not writing to your
mate who will understand you for who you are but to a set of wannabes whose
uttermost desire is first to glance through your book for pictures and images
then come back to see if you are making sense or not.
Is this your first Published Material?
Not at all. I have published online poetry pieces and likewise conference papers at the annual Zimbabwe International Book Fair which holds yearly. I published a paper in 2016 and 2019 respectively. Both years publication involves me presenting there physically alongside other members of African academia.
What exactly inspired the writing
of this book; Mum Money and I?
The inspiration behind Mum Money
and I is to answer curious questions kids out there wants to ask about money.
You know we have seen couple of financial leaders in our time whose money or
impact of their money would be felt on their second and third generation and
from this kind of example I feel the fault was the parent who didn't deem it
fit to address financial education with their kids. It is fine, kids are curious
but do you know that their curiosity is a form of education for them. So giving
it to them the way it is educates them on what they need to know per time, so
they won't fall victim of unpleasant life issues (it also help them sail
through life easily). It is just like saying; your teenage girl asked you;
"Mum what is sex and how do people have sex? And the next thing you could
say to her is. "No, children shouldn't
talk about sex". It sounds so funny right? But the honest truth is that,
we've got a bunch of parent doing this and in turn ruining the future of their
children. So educating children about money management and correcting several
financial/money misconceptions was the idea behind writing this book.
Is the book strictly for
children?
Although my target audience are
the kids but then adult can also glean from it. As a parent you can learn
strategies to telling children stories in such a way that appeals to them. Yes,
adults too can also learn few financial precepts from the book as well.
What key lessons are people
taking away from this book?
The book so far has mirrored to
the readers the importance of money in our world today and it's relevance on
our living. Having a child as my lead character also makes it clear that when
you lead a child in the way of proper financial education such child easily
takes the lead when issue of finance comes their way.
